The first thing that popped in my head when I saw these bikes were the Spy vs. Spy characters in MAD Magazine… y’know, ‘cause of the angular headlamps and the black and white color scheme… Yes, I’m a dork. Let’s move on.

Despite my weird imagination, this ENV motorbike by Intelligent Energy does look pretty kick-ass. It’s sleek, aerodynamic, and since it’s made from aircraft-grade aluminium, only weighs about 176 lbs. But that’s not what cool about it — it’s the world’s first fuel cell motorcycle. Each bike runs on a single 1kw hydrogen fuel cell generator, which they’ve dubbed the Core. It provides power on-demand and is paired up with a battery pack for a hybrid combo that boosts the performance up to 6kw. The Core is even detachable, and has the ability to power up motoroboats and small houses(!!). Fully filled, this thing can speed along up to 4 hours and can go as fast as 50mph. And since they run on fuel cell technology, that means clean emissions, a quieter ride, and no need for “rider skills” — there are no gears, just press the throttle and away you go.

It’ll be commercially available some time in 2006 and will cost about $6,000.
